AUDITION
INFORMATION FALL
Production Auditions
Shakespeare's Measure for Measure directed by Peter Glazer Rehearsals: Sept. 2 through October 9 Performances: October 10-19
Auditions: August 26 & 27, 6-10pm, Zellerbach Playhouse
Call Backs: August 28 & 29, 6-10pm, Zellerbach Playhouse
For audition, prepare a one minute monologue, that best demonstrates your skills as an actor. Materiel with heightened languauge is preferred, but not required. Experience in Shakespeare is not required. Please look at script before auditioning.
Theater and
Dance Classes
The following theater and dance courses require an audition for admission
into the course:
Theater courses requiring an audition: 10, 11, 110A, 111, 114, 115, 166:2
(Theater 115 is not offered every semester. Please check the departmental course descriptions for confirmation).
You will not be able to enroll in 10, 11, 110A, 111, 114, 115, or 166:2 through
Tele-BEARS before the beginning of the semester. You must reserve a time
for an audition during the first week of class for admission into these
courses. The audition sign-up sheets will be posted in the hallway of
101 Dwinelle Annex on August 1. If you are accepted into the course, the
instructor will give you a course control number on the first day that
your class meets. You must then add the course via Tele-BEARS. No one
will be considered for 10, 11, 110A, 111, 114, 115, or 166:2 without an audition.
Audition requirement for 10: one minute speech from a play, film script
or a selection of prose. Need not be memorized.
Audition requirement for 11, 110B, 111 and 115: a one-minute monologue
from a play which must be memorized.
Audition requirement for 114:
For actors, one minute monologue which must be memorized;
for dancers, one minute of choreographed (not improvised) movement; for musicians or singers, one-minute of a piece of composed (not improvised), favorite music; for visual artists, bring a piece of which you are particularly proud and be prepared to discuss briefly your process and inspiration. If you have skill in more than one area, choose two and be prepared to show materials for both.
Audition requirement for 166:2: Open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. Audition will include application, vocal work, physical movement, physical contact, scriptwork, and interview. For more information, contact Michael Mansfield: michael@theater.berkeley.edu

For access to Zellerbach 7, 170, 317, and 413, enter through the stage
door on the north side of Zellerbach Hall next to the Playhouse. Durham
Studio Theater is located at the back of Dwinelle Hall and 2401 Bancroft
Way is at the corner of Bancroft Way and Dana.
Class lists will be posted the day after auditions on the same bulletin
board in 101 Dwinelle Annex where you signed up for your audition. Remember
to add the course once you are admitted into it.
Dance courses requiring an audition: 40A (see below), 141A, 142A, 143A, and
149.
All dance students are encouraged to enroll through Tele-BEARS and must
attend the first day of class which is the audition and is held during
each class' regular time. Students will be advised at the end of the class
if they have been admitted. If they are admitted and have not pre-enrolled
through Tele-BEARS, it is the students responsibility to add the
course. Anyone not admitted must drop through Tele-BEARS. NO ONE will
be admitted into these courses without the preliminary audition.
