What happens when government rule is driven by religious and social mores? Measure for Measure resonates as loudly today as when Shakespeare asked that question over 400 years ago. As if torn form current headlines, this complex and compelling tale explores themes of moral hypocrisy and abuse of power as a righteous politician's career falls apart due to ethical and sexual scandals.

BERKELEY DANCE PROJECT 2009: EQUAL FOOTING
Director: Lisa Wymore
This year's BDP celebrates music and dance with Equal Footing, pairing composers with choreographers, bringing live musicians on stage with TDPS dancers. Collaborations include a premiere from Joe Goode working with composer Joan Jeanrenaud (formerly of Kronos Quartet), and choreographer Lisa Wymore (Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts) with a new work in collaboration with composer Sheldon Smith. In conjunction with Merce Cunningham's residency with Cal Performances, excerpts of Cunningham's choreography will be performed by TDPS dancers with music composed and performed by graduate students from the UCB Music Department and Center for New Music and Audio Technology.
